Local Movers

If you’re moving down the block or across the county, movers define it as a local move. Even though you’re not going that far, a licensed, reliable, and affordable moving company is a vital element of your intrastate move. When seeking estimates, it’s important to know what a local move is and how it’s priced.

What is considered a local move?

Compared to a long distance move, where you’re moving hundreds or thousands of miles, a local move is faster and cheaper. A move is considered “local” if:

  • 1. The move begins and ends within the same state. There is typically no more than 50 miles between the two locations.

  • 2. Both locations will be serviced on the same day by the same crew.

  • 3. Billable time begins on arrival at the origin and ends on completion at the destination.

It is important to note that some moving companies consider a 100-mile distance between the two locations a local move. Regardless of the distance, if the moving company travels into another state at any point, the move would then be considered long distance.

How much does a local move cost?

While prices may vary depending on the moving company and the specific needs of the person moving, a local move is typically charged at a flat, hourly rate. Factors that affect the hourly rate include:

  • 1. Labor (the crew needed for the move)

  • 2. Services (packing, assembling/disassembling, stair carries, long carries)

  • 3. Add-ons (mattress bags, stretch wrap, pads)

  • 4. Travel (time, gas, and tolls)

Why should I hire local movers?

There are many benefits of hiring movers, regardless of the distance between your current and new home. These are professionals who do the heavy lifting with ease and protect all your belongings, big and small, sentimental and valuable, from damage or destruction. They come prepared with the materials, equipment, and transportation to move you in a matter of hours. When weighing the options between hiring local movers, or saving money and doing it yourself, ask yourself these questions:

  • 1. Do you have a group of reliable friends to help you pack and move on the date you need to?

  • 2. Can these friends lift heavy furniture, like a 200-pound dresser, down the stairs and out of the house, without damaging the piece or any walls?

  • 3. Do you feel comfortable driving a large moving van across the state?

MOST RECOMMENDED!

They are Amazing!

"Positive: Professionalism, Quality, Responsiveness, Value Justin, Alex, and Demetrius were our superheroes. Absolutely extraordinary service at a fair cost!!! They only charged us for the time it took them, which was far less time than we had anticipated. They made it to our destination and were waiting with smiling faces, ready to tackle the last part of our moving day challenge. They made a nightmare of a chore into a day of celebration. Thank you three fine gentleman for all your patience and for taking such good care of my furniture. I would highly recommend this company."

They Made the Job Easy!

This is the second time I have used College Hunks services. They are always professional and do an excellent job. Bryant W. and Emmanuel C. worked the job this time around and they were great. They got the job done quick and the price was more than fair. I highly recommend these guys!

Reliable & Professional!

The work ethics this group have are wonderful. I have moved several times but honestly no one has done the job as great as the team that 1st Class Moving provided. J and his team Andre and Nacho are extremely professional and fast. There are old school proper and kind. You don't see that nowadays. I will be definitely calling them again in my next move. I have to say I called several companies and I am glad I stayed with my first option. 1st Class Moving is really 1st class. Great company and best team ever!

Great Experience!

Alex was easy to work with and flexible when I had to change the date we needed help. He and another gentleman came and unloaded our Upack trailer. They were very professional and quick! I would definitely use them again- although currently I'm hoping to never move again because it is not fun!
